The Amphitheatre of Verona

Every year the Arena of Verona attracts tourists from all over the world.

Once the ring of fights between gladiators, today it is considered the ideal setting to stage operas and major concerts by international artists.

Built some 2,000 years ago, the Verona amphitheatre has survived in time always keeping an important position in the public and cultural life of the city.

It was in 1913 that the Arena took on primary importance for Italian music and theatre: that year, the great Giovanni Zenatello produced the first performance of Aida on the hundredth anniversary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi.

The impact of the event was such that it has guaranteed international success for the amphitheatre for over a century: the Arena is still recognized as one of the best opera theatres in the world.
